Born in the Thousand Island region of upstate New York, Steve grew up with changing seasons and a childhood filled with many memories of playing in fields, ponds and woods that were home to all kinds of birds and animals. It is this familiarity with animals and his life-long ambition to be an artist that convinced him to leave his vocation, nine years ago, and begin a new, very enjoyable and rewarding career as a wildlife and nature artist. Although self taught, he is very proficient with several mediums and techniques, although he does prefer acrylics, ink and colored pencils.

Steve's wildlife artwork is based on his passion and for all living things and his multitude of experiences he has enjoyed through his many travels, which has taken him all over the United States. During these trips, sketches are made, photographs are taken, information is written down and every opportunity is exploited to observe and understand as much of the wildlife in each of the places he visits. Recent travels have taken him to California, Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Nevada, Florida, and Alaska.

Since making his career change in 1995, Steve's artwork has received much recognition and has won numerous awards and honors. Some of the more notable accomplishments are:

* 2008 – January – North Carolina Duck Stamp Competition - “Third Place” for an acrylic painting of Snow Geese in corn stubble. There were 50 entries from 27 states and 2 other countries.
