Washington

I had never been to the Pacific Northwest before, so when the offer came from my good friend to come and visit, I had to go. Snohomish is a small city, northeast of Seattle, and gave Wendy and me a great place to venture out from and explore what the area had to offer. Although a little drizzly now and again, the weather generally cooperated and we did everything we wanted to do. After a couple days enjoying our time with our hosts, it was off to the Olympic peninsula to spend 4 days in Olympic National Park. Even the trip to Port Angeles, gave us opportunities to see a little wildlife and some spectacular scenery.

Once there, we took every advantage to visit and explore places in and out of the park. We saw the birdlife of Ediz Hook, the tidal pools of Salt Creek County Park and the beaches at the Dungeness Spit. We went to see the beaches near La Push.

Olympic National Park was everything I expected and more. The images remain vivid in my mind of the vistas from Hurricane Ridge, as will the trees, moss and uniqueness of Hoh Rain Forest.

Then, it was back to Snohomish and a few day trips to places like Rainier National Park and the San Juan Islands for a whale watching excursion. Nothing can take away from the excitement of seeing orca, and the colors of Rainier were simply breathtaking.

Before our trip ended, Wendy and I were treated to a daytrip ride with our hosts, through the Cascade Mountains, to see the amazing scenery and different terrain on the eastern side of the mountains. To Kim and Bob, we offer our sincerest appreciation for your generosity and for making this trip an enjoyable one.
